Special Non-Subscription Symphony PerformancesThe Pasadena Symphony looks forward to two additional performances during the 2000-01 concert season.
At the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, August 5, 2000, at 8:00 p.m., The Pasadena Symphony will collaborate with the Oratorio Society of Utah in the world premiere of Symphony of Tears by Jeff Manookian, commemorating the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Mezzo-contralto Doris Brunatti and boy soprano Mitchell Prettyman will join the combined forces of The Pasadena Symphony and the Oratorio Society of Utah, all under the direction of the composer. In addition, the ensemble will perform Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Manookian’s Improvisations on Armenian Folk Songs.
On Friday, December 1, 2000, at 8:00 p.m., one of the world’s most distinguished and beloved music personalities, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, solos with The Pasadena Symphony at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. Rostropovich will perform cello concertos by Haydn and Saint-Saëns with The Pasadena Symphony, which will also perform symphonies of Mozart (No. 36) and Schubert (No. 3).
